CAS Summer Research Program for Minorities

2022 Dates: May 23 - July 29

The program provides students with the opportunity to continue working on their research projects under the mentorship of a faculty mentor during the summer term. Selected students are provided with:

• Can students who are not science majors apply?

  Yes, all College of Arts and Sciences students are welcome to apply! All work must be done in Miami and the student must attend all weekly workshops and extracurricular events.

• Are students who have minors in the College of Arts and Sciences eligible to apply?

  No, only students that have a major with the College of Arts and Sciences are eligible.

• Is a student currently studying abroad and not returning to Miami until June eligible to apply and start their research in July?

  No, students must be in Miami and participate for the full ten weeks of the program.

• Can research be conducted outside of Miami?

  No. Students are required to attend weekly professional development meetings on campus.

• Can students participate in the program and take summer courses or have a job?

  No. The program commitments do not allow time for other obligations.

• Are students that have enough credits to be considered a senior eligible to apply?

  If the student will be enrolled at UM the following fall semester, they are welcome to apply!

• What is the recommendation for students who are interested in this program but would also like to apply for other opportunities?

  Apply to all programs that are of interest and specify these programs on the CAS Summer Research application. If this program is their first choice, indicate this on the application.

• Can students receive other summer research support such as PRIME, Beyond the Books, Summer Honors Research, or Lois Pope Neuroscience Summer Scholarship?

  No, students may not receive other summer research support while participating in the CAS program.

• How competitive is this program?

  The program is competitive as there are only six positions available each summer.
